Focus on Aluminium

Did you know:

Aluminum (also spelled “aluminium”) is a chemical element with the symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery-white, soft, nonmagnetic and ductile metal that belongs to the boron group. Aluminum is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon) and is abundant in the earth’s crust.

Due to its low density, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance, aluminum is widely used in a variety of applications, including transportation (automobiles, airplanes, trains), construction (windows, doors, siding, roofing), packaging (cans, foil), electrical transmission lines, and consumer goods (cookware, appliances).

Aluminum is also widely used in the aerospace and defence industries due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, making it an ideal material for lightweight structures such as aircraft and spacecraft. It is also used in the production of aluminum alloys, which combine aluminum with other metals to produce materials with improved strength and other desirable properties.

At GF Laser we cut many different types of aluminium in thicknesses of up to 12mm. Laser cutting aluminium can be difficult but it is made easier by utilising one of our more modern fiber lasers which have a more stable laser beam and lessen the risk of material reflection.

Laser cutting thick aluminium ( 5mm and above) will nearly always give a light burr, however, our approved deburring sub contractors are able to remove this burr at very competitive prices. If you are not sure what level of burr you might get why not contact us for a sample as the deburring operation might not be required.
